Trees with “Crown Shyness” Mysteriously Avoid Touching Each Other

Nature has so many beautiful creations. Since some towering trees are a bit high, you may not see specific patterns of those giant trees. If you are unfamiliar with those beautiful sceneries after reading this article, you will never look down while walking.

Some towering trees have a unique phenomenon where their upper branches don’t touch each other. It’s called “crown shyness, which looks like an outline of a tree. Scientists identified this topic in the 1920s, and studies have progressed in different places with different species around the globe.

Crown shyness, a naturally occurring phenomenon, results in crack-like gaps in the tree canopy.

Though the studies started a long way ago, no one is quite sure why certain trees exhibit this unique behavior. Someone explain it this leads the perennial plants to receive optimal light for photosynthesis. Another suggestion is this happens when the branches of trees bump into each other.
