Matthew Stewart became a well-known social media influencer for a very wholesome reason — his relationship with his grandmother, Bobbe. The two share fun and heart-warming moments on their social media pages. They garnered over 325 thousand followers on Instagram and 5.6 million on TikTok. But in October 2020, Stewart announced that his grandmother would move in with him and his family. He was renovating a new room in his home just for her. Bobbe was overjoyed to hear this, and the video of her reaction went viral as their followers praised Stewart for his kindness.
Bringing Bobbe Home
Stewart explained that Bobbe had been there for him during life’s hardest moments, and now he could finally return the love to her. Remember, this was in 2020 and the pandemic was in full swing. Many grandparents became isolated from their families because of the quarantine. Most old age homes restricted visitors to protect their immunocompromised residents, forcing them to live alone for months on end. Fortunately, Stewart and his grandmother were able to spend this time together.
Stewart Gives Bobbe a Spa Day
Keep in mind, this isn’t the first time the pair went viral. A few months before the moving reveal, Stewart posted a video where he treated his Bobbe to a spa day. The hair salon she frequented had been closed for some time because of the pandemic and she missed her usual hair treatment. Despite his inexperience with styling, Stewart treated Bobbe to an at-home salon day, where he washed, blow-dried, and styled her hair. Bobbe had a great time with her grandson and said he made her “beautimous.” Overall, she thought it was a special experience. And since then, Stewart has continued to do her hair.
Speaking to Now This News, Stewart gushes about his grandmother, saying, “I just love the fact that she is who she is. You’re not gonna change her. She speaks what’s on her mind. She can be herself around me and I can be myself around her.”
But not even a worldwide pandemic could slow down the energetic grandma. She explained in a 2020 Fox interview that she was ready for the quarantine to end. “[I’ve] been bored to death. But I watch game shows religiously and I work crossword puzzles and that’s what keeps me going,” she said. “I’m an easy-going old lady and I’ve lived through a lot of things and I’m fine. I’m not worried about it.” She added that once she could go out again, she’s going to the mall because “I would love to get out. I can’t wander around but I would love to go to the mall again. I need some new underwear so I need to go shopping.”
“I’m Everybody’s Grandmother”
Sadly, Bobbe passed away in January 2022 at age 88. She suffered from a bad fall, complicated by her Alzheimer’s diagnosis. Unfortunately, she’ll never meet her great-grandchild, who is due in April.
Stewart continues to post clips of his grandmother, deep in mourning for his loved one, and many of his followers grieve alongside him. Many fans post about how they miss her and thank Stewart for sharing these happy moments with them. In a way, she’s their grandmother too, and she said so herself. In one video, she responded to one follower asking if she would adopt them a grandkid. And she responded, “Why not? I’m everybody’s grandma. I’m the world’s grandma and you know it… I love you, I love all of you… And thank you for taking me in and letting me belong to you and you belong to me. So there!”
On March 13, Stewart posted a video of his grandmother with the caption: “Cherish EVERY moment you have with the ones you love. I feel being able to take care of GB [Grandma Bobbe] and give her a place of happiness was just as much a gift to me as it was to her. Love is what life if ALL about!”
Grandma Bobbe brought so much love and joy to her family and her followers, who will dearly miss her sass, cheeriness, and kindness.
