The ‘Ip Man’ star will be playing Keanu’s old friend and fellow assassin, promising that the action will reach insane levels.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting John Wick 4 since the conclusion of 2019’s thrilling John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, but now it seems like we have twice as much reason to get excited.

Legendary martial arts superstar Donnie Yen has been announced as a co-star alongside Keanu Reeves in the Chad Stahelski feature in an announcement that promises to up the action to an insane degree.

Yen will be playing an old comrade of Reeves’ mega assassin John Wick, and will apparently have a similar history and the same enemies, reports Deadline.

“We are very lucky to have Donnie Yen join the franchise,” Stahelski said. “I am looking forward to working with him in this exciting new role.”

Yen is arguably one of the most successful stars from Asia, known for his brilliant screen combat in dozens of Hong Kong martial arts films that recall some of Bruce Lee and Jet Li’s best performances

The actor is most well-known for his starring role as the Wing Chun grandmaster in the Ip Man series and for his supporting role as Chirrut Îmwe in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. He also portrayed Xiang in xXx: Return of Xander Cage and Commander Tung in the Disney film Mulan.

Yen is a seasoned martials arts master whose proficiency encompasses a number of fighting techniques including Boxing, Hapkido, Taekwondo, Karate, Muay Thai, wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Wushu, Wing Chun, Tai Chi and Kickboxing. So yeah, one can say that he might have a few tricks to teach Keanu.

The fourth installment in the series will begin shooting on location in France, Germany and Japan this summer and is set to be released on May 27, 2022 after filming was pushed back due to the ongoing pandemic.
