Baby Girl Is Born With Rare Defect. But 4 Years Later, Her Face Looks So Different

Cypres Salon knew something was wrong when she didn’t hear her newborn daughter crying out of the womb.
Baby Angel was abruptly rushed to treatment after doctors realized she was born with encephalocele, a rare brain hernia.
The hernia, which caused a massive lump to form over Angel’s face, made it near impossible for her to live life like a normal child. The lesion was so large that she would be forced to lift or move it just to see out of her eyes.
Unfortunately, Cypres and her husband Dale did not have the funds to get their daughter the surgery she needed.
Angel was also at the center of cruel bullying. Other children branded her a “monster.”
To protect their daughter from scrutiny, Cypres and Dale preferred keeping Angel at home where she could play with her siblings and cousins.
But one day, while out in public, the very thing her parents feared happened to the brave little girl from the Philippines…

Cypres was worried when she didn’t hear her newborn baby cry after giving birth.
Her daughter, Angel, was immediately ushered away from her as doctors realized she was born with encephalocele, a rare brain hernia.
According to Wikipedia, “these defects are caused by failure of the neural tube to close completely during fetal development.”
Five days later, Cypres was finally able to see Angel. She was horrified by what she saw and blamed herself for Angel’s condition.

Cypres and her husband Dale raised $5,500 for Angel’s surgery in the Philippines.
While the surgery helped relieve some dangerous side effects, the hernia still covered most of her left eye.

In order to properly see, Angel would have to lift or shift the lump over her eye. It also made it difficult for her to laugh and play like other little kids.
Her peers called her a “monster.”
Cypres and Dale wanted to shield Angel from bullying, so they tried keeping her home where she could play with her cousins and siblings.
But one day, out in public, a little boy approached Angel and began teasing and taunting her. This is exactly what her parents were afraid of.
But being the optimistic child she is, Angel just patted the boy on the shoulder and said “hi.”
Cypres couldn’t believe Angel’s response to the bullying. She beamed with pride.
Cypres and Dale were not able to raise $8,000 for Angel’s hernia to be removed. Luckily, they were referred to the Children First Foundation by Interplast.
Interplast is a nonprofit organization that works to provide free surgical treatment to people in developing countries in the Asia Pacific region.
In September 2016, The Children First Foundation flew Angel and Dale to Australia for life-changing surgery.
During a four-hour procedure, doctors cut the 200-gram lump off Angel’s face. Then, they took bone from her hip to seal the hole in her head.
…And the surgery was a success!
Thanks to Interplast and Children First, Angel was allowed Angel to see clearly for the first time ever.
Now four years old, this amazing little girl is now happier than ever. She and her family celebrated with a birthday party in November 2016.
Since going public with their incredible story, messages of love and support have been pouring in for Angel and her family.
